We’re bringing together two of the state’s most experienced nonprofit legal minds for a practical, accessible deep dive into the legal issues every organization should understand. Join us for Ask a Nonprofit Lawyer, where experts Eric Gorovitz and Shirley McLaughlin, both principals at the nationally recognized law firm Adler & Colvin, will walk through key legal fundamentals and answer your most pressing questions. Eric and Shirley will unpack some of the most common (and commonly misunderstood) areas of nonprofit law, including: 

  • Race-based grantmaking and how to structure equity-focused funding in compliance with federal and state rules 
  • Privacy and data security requirements, and what nonprofits must do to protect donor and client information Fundraising regulations, including solicitation rules, disclosures, and multi-state compliance
  • Advocacy and lobbying, what’s allowed for 501(c)(3)s, and how to participate in public policy safely and effectively
